India’s middle order Virat Kohli as expected has been fined 50% of his match fees after pleading guilty of his obscene gesture to the crowd at the Sydney Cricket Ground yesterday. Match Referee Ranjan Madugalle had called up Virat Kohli and the Team Manager Shivlal Yadav for a hearing this morning.

Kohli had admitted yesterday via twitter that he was provoked by a section of the crowd who went on abusing his mother and sister. The young man went onto show them a middle finger which was caught on camera as a proof.

The 23-year-old Kohli seems to have a hot temperament as he has been in these reactive situations more than twice now – first with a few spectators during an IPL Match and recently in a home ODI against the West Indies when he was given out lbw. Add to his woes, Kohli has been struggling to get any good score in the ongoing Test series having failed thrice so far. The youngster will get his chance to reply with his bat tomorrow when India resume its fight to save the Second Test.
