Simon Katich retires from Australia First Class Cricket

Australia’s Test discard Simon Katich has announced his retirement from first class cricket in his country. The 36-year-old announced his decision to quit Australian first-class cricket while playing in the English County Season for Hampshire.

Australia’s Test discard Simon Katich has announced his retirement from first class cricket in his country. The 36-year-old announced his decision to quit Australian first-class cricket while playing in the English County Season for Hampshire. However, Katich will figure in the Perth Scorchers team which will play in the upcoming Champions League T20. He will also continue playing for Hampshire.

Simon KatichKatich has played 56 Tests for Australia scoring 4188 runs at an impressive average of 45.03 for an opener. He has scored 10 centuries and 25 50s. Katich, who is considered more of a Test player has scored nearly 20,000 first-class runs with 54 centuries and 104 fifties. His highest first-class score till date is 306 for New South Wales against Queensland.

The 36-year-old Katich had made his first-class debut in 1996/97 representing Western Australia. In 2002, Katich shifted to the New South Wales. His Test Debut came in the year 2001 in the Ashes Test at Headingley. Katich's last Test was also in the Ashes, at Adelaide in 2010 following which he was controversially left out of the side and also lost the central contract with Cricket Australia.
